Fostering Internet-based Values of the Environment

Johannes Langemeyer

Principal Investigator and Project Leader

I am a geographer by training, holding a dual doctorate in Sustainability Science and Environmental Science. My research career has been shaped by experiences at leading institutions such as Humboldt University of Berlin, the Stockholm Resilience Centre, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. My work focuses on the intersection of social-ecological and digital systems, bridging theoretical understandings of nature’s values with practical applications in spatial planning—both in urban landscapes and beyond.

Having grown up in the countryside, I have always felt a deep connection to nature and a profound appreciation for it. As new generations increasingly grow up in urban environments, direct connections to nature are diminishing. Yet, human-nature relationships are increasingly manifesting in the digital world. This shift fascinates me, and I am eager to explore whether new values of nature and innovative stewardship initiatives are emerging from these digital interactions.
