Fostering Internet-based Values of the Environment

Marc Sadurní Parera

Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a physicist by training, holding a PhD in Complex Systems Physics from the University of Barcelona. My thesis, titled “Emergent Complex Socio-economic Phenomena in Urban Environments: Hierarchies, Segregation, and Cooperation”, received the International Mention in collaboration with the Complexity Science Hub (CSH) in Vienna. I specialize in data-driven modelling, statistical physics, and computational approaches to complex systems, with experience designing and implementing agent-based, stochastic, game-theoretic, and network-based models applied to real-world data. My research experiences at the University of Barcelona Institute of Complex Systems (UBICS), the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC), and CSH have shaped my interest in understanding emergent collective phenomena in complex social and socio-ecological systems, particularly in urban environments and cities. My work combines physical reasoning with empirical evidence through analytical and computational approaches.

As a Postdoctoral researcher, I contribute to the development of computational approaches to understand complex socio-ecological systems within the BIG-5 project. Drawing on my background in complex systems, computational social science, and statistical physics, I use modelling and data-driven methods to investigate interactions and emergent dynamics between social and ecological systems, while helping bridge computational research at BSC with socio-environmental research at ICTA-UAB.
